You Dream It...We Design It

In late May, the global education community learned about the launch of the Latitude 2100 – a highly differentiated netbook designed specifically for primary education.

One of these differentiated features is the light in the back of the LCD panel – we are currently calling it the “Network Activity Light” – some reviewers and customers have referred to it as the “Tattle Tale Light”or the “Teacher Alert Light”

This light was designed with the education ecosystem in mind.  We received great input from our education customers that teachers are often looking at a “wall of laptops” with no way to ensure that students were on task and free of technical difficulties.  We designed the Network Activity Light with the sole purpose of sending a signal to the teacher that a particular event is occurring in a given laptop while standing in the front of the classroom.

Today, the Network Activity Light lets you know when students are surfing the Internet, tomorrow it could indicate when they get the right answer, are stuck on a question or have wandered to a site that’s off limits.

Our plans are to develop a software application that customers can download to manage their network activity light.  Before we begin developing this application – We need your input!

Calling all Teachers, Administrators, Parents, and Students …we want you on our education design team. Tell us what functionality we should add to the Latitude 2100 Network Activity Light.  Your idea could end up on our roadmap to help students and teachers worldwide.

Your input was invaluable in the development of the Latitude 2100.  Now, we are asking you how the Network Activity Light can support integrating technology into your classroom.

From now until late August, we will collect your ideas and the IdeaStorm community will be able to view, comment and promote their favorite suggestions.  Once all the ideas are in, our Product Group will review and begin development of the software app that we plan to deliver the following school year.

We don’t want to stall your creativity… please send us your dream scenarios.  But do keep the ideas focused on when the light should be on and when it should be off.   If you want to see the network activity light in action, please watch this 90-second video.

You dream it…we’ll design it.  Tell us how you want to use the Latitude 2100 Network Activity Light in your classroom.   Click Here to submit your ideas or visit www.dell.com/dreamit.
