AW3423DWF, ETA on EOTF firmware fix?

Hello Alienware team,

Many people are wondering what is the ETA on the firmware fix that's coming for the AW3423DWF? According to this article on dell website, a firmware update was suppose to be provided in mid February for the source tone map bug in HDR 1000. Alas, we're now March 1st and there's still no update in sight.

EOTF (Electro-Optical Transfer Function) curve in HDR1000 on the AW3423DWF is currently messed up as shown by many reviewers (Monitor Unboxed, etc.). Any update on when we should see a firmware fix for this would be most welcome.

Hello everyone. I would really like some clarification about future firmware updates that will fix the HDR1000 issues of the DWF. I really want to buy the monitor but these problems prevent me from buying it. Thank you

I've "fixed" two of my complaints above, and I'd like to share them because they were unknown to me.

First about the lights turning on by themselves: when I've installed the firmware update, it also silently installed a software called "Alienware Command Center", which one can configure "themes" for the monitor... Turns out It was this software that was applying some default profile I wasn't aware of.

Then about the Pixel Refresh running only with the computer turned on: it would just turn off when I pressed the power button for some reason, even though I'd reset the monitor after updating the firmware. Well, another factory reset did solve it! Now I can shut the computer down, and press the monitor power button to get that menu asking whether I want to run pixel refresh...

I met with team earlier today and there's no solid date yet, but was told it will be soon.

The impression I got was by end of May, but this was not something that was directly stated in the meeting (so just something from my experience). If I do get an official update on this or actual date I will definitely share it.

The impression I got was for an end of month fix, but once I hear more I will update the thread.

Eagerly awaiting a fix here as well.. Doesn't feel great dropping $1000+ on a single device that doesn't work upto it's own spec

Thank you for this, the LEDs turning on each time was driving me crazy.

I don't know why you would buy the DW over the DWF. The firmware on the DW is not user upgradable, and I would recommend the DWF with user upgradable firmware any day over the DW.

Non user upgradable firmware is an automatic no for me.

Anxiously awaiting updates!

I have had my AW3423DWF since January, and it feels neutered without a proper HDR1000 mode like the AW3423DW has. I would have bought a DW in store instead of buying a DWF online had I known about this issue.

Awaiting more information on when the fix will finally be available, as I have recommended this monitor to several interested persons but told them to wait until this bug is fixed before pulling the trigger.

I hope this is not like the tonemapping bug where we are promised fixes by the end of January, then end of February, before we finally got a fix in March, but more important than the timeline is whether or not the team is actually working on a fix, or if they are just exploring the issue. Hopefully this issue will be fixed soon!
