Most problems are caused by using peer to peer and/or having some type of spyware that was put on your computer. This causes your connection to fail.

Most wireless networks have a troubleshoot button and/or repair button. The repair button does this. It sends the command and does the following, this can be done manually using these commands,

start

run

cmd

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

ipconfig /flushdns

If your computer cannot renew the ip address then you need to use this tool to get thinks working again.

It's called WinSock XP Fix.
How to repair a connection

Most problems are caused by using peer to peer and/or having some type of spyware that was put on your computer. This causes your connection to fail.

Most wireless networks have a troubleshoot button and/or repair button. The repair button does this. It sends the command and does the following, this can be done manually using these commands,

start

run

cmd

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

ipconfig /flushdns

If your computer cannot renew the ip address then you need to use this tool to get thinks working again.

It's called WinSock XP Fix. Currently it works for All Windows platforms.

Also try LSP Fix.

How to repair a connection

Revision 1 posted to Networking, Internet, Wireless by PudgyOne on 12/28/2008 10:22:11 PM

How to login to your wireless router

Here are instructions to login to your wireless router.

Hit the Windows Key and the R key at the same time. This will bring up the Run prompt.

Type CMD and then hit Enter.

Type

ipconfig /all (space between the g and /)

and hit Enter. Look for the Default Gateway, should look something like 192.168.1.1 but can be different depending on the wireless router and manufacturer.

Open Internet Explorer or your browser and enter the Default Gateway number into the Address Bar in your browser and hit enter.

You should see a login screen. You must enter the Username and Password to login. On most wireless routers they are...

Username = admin

Password = blank or password

but these can vary on the manufacturer. Please consult your wireless routers installation instructions for the correct information.

I highly recommend that you use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings in your wireless router to make connecting work at its greatest.

If you still have problems, the please post in the Dell Networking, Internet, Wireless Forum

Recommended Wireless Router Settings

I highly recommend using these settings in your wireless router to get everything to communicate with very minimal problems.

Update the firmware in your wireless router. Manufacturer's website, make & Model needed.

Broadcast SSID(You may want to change this to make it easier to connect)

Use WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security(WPA Personal). Most wireless devices work best with this type of security.

Mixed b and g mode(n if available)(Use this mode only if using a print server and/or USB wireless adaptrer(s))

Use channels 1, 6 or 11. Most devices work better on these channels.

Keep the setting at DHCP.

Do NOT use Mac Address Filtering

Save and exit. Power everything off for 30 seconds. Power everything back on, wait 30 seconds, now try to connect.

Keep the setting at DHCP.

Update the firmware in your wireless router. Manufacturer's website, make & Model needed.

Broadcast SSID(You may want to change this to make it easier to connect)

Use WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security(WPA Personal). Most wireless devices work best with this type of security.

Mixed b and g mode(n if available)

Theoretically doubling the banwidth bandwidth since you are simultaneously using both radios of a dual-band wireless router.

Takes a bit to set up but WLAN teaming proves its worth significantly...
Under Vista x64 SP1, the BASP virtual adapter never fails to connect and since the 2 WLAN cards are teamed you're only pulling one IP address from the router..
When streaming HD wirelessly and if I manually disable one of either of the two radios (simulating out of range for single radio), the HD stream won't even hiccup.

Just got this new 370 bluetooth card in and fixed all the issues I was having w/bluetooth audio...

Following shows the diff between the old & new 370:

Notice the later version HCI Firmware that shipped w/this new Mini-card on the right..bottom...

Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Minicard Application 6.2.0.6600 driver from here: http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R205174.EXE http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R205174.EXE

Updated: Bluetooth driver linked above will auto-flash up to latest HCI firmware pictured on the right!:bottom!:)

Lastly, I also downloaded and installed the Windows Vista Feature Pack for Wireless: http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/MICROSOFT_WINDOWS-VISTA-SP1-_A01_R204794.EXE
http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/MICROSOFT_WINDOWS-VISTA-SP1-_A01_R204794.EXE

This article describes the Windows Vista Feature Pack for Wireless. This software update includes the following components or features that improve wireless support in Windows Vista: • Bluetooth version 2.1 support
• Unified Pairing user interface
• Windows Connect Now updates
Some of these features may work with existing hardware. However, you must have new hardware to take advantage of the new functionality.

This update is compatible with all versions of Windows Vista. It can be installed only on a computer that is running Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1).
This fix for bluetooth was never made avail for download by Microsoft and only given to OEM's but I managed to find both x64 & x86 versions here: http://itsvista.com/2008/05/kb942567/ http://itsvista.com/2008/05/kb942567/

After installing this hotfix, you get a new show bluetooth devices window in Vista!

Everything now sounds great over my Motorola bluetooth headset... No more pops or dropouts with this new 370 card w/improved firmware and the thing was cheap at only $10!:D

Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Mini-card problems fixed!

Revision 2 posted to Networking, Internet, Wireless by somms on 1/22/2009 2:33:38 PM

Just got this new 370 bluetooth card in and fixed all the issues I was having w/bluetooth audio...

Following shows the diff between the old & new 370:

Notice the later version HCI Firmware that shipped w/this new Mini-card on the right...

Since this card has a later firmware version, I do not recommend installing Dell

's bluetooth driver either XP

or Vista

versions as they contain an older firmware version that will auto-flash the firmware if installed...

Instead, use a newer Broadcom Bluetooth driver 6.1.0.5100 driver from here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-70997

Although it says 32-bit Vista

it also contains the 64-bit driver as well...

Updating to this Lenovo

bluetooth driver installed newer audio drivers than what is included in Dell's older 6.1.0.4402 driver:

In order to install the Lenovo driver, just extract the 52bl05ww.exe to a folder using winrar then go under Win32 or Win64 depending on your Vista version and dbl-clk Inst.exe to install...

BTW: No DFU firmware file is included with the Lenovo driver so you don't have to worry about flashing over a newer HCI...

Lastly, I also downloaded and installed the Windows Vista

I have XPS 1330 with broadband modem and SIM card from Cellular1 with a long-term unlimited data contract. I would like to purchase Mini 9 [910] with internal broadband modem -- which are listed as "AT&T". Are the 3G modems locked so that I have to use an AT&T service or can I use a different cell provider's gsm/hsdpa/EDGE data SIM card? No way I am going to buy out my Cellular1 contract or switch to inferior terms of AT&T, so the real question is whether the Mini is limited to AT&T.

Thanks.

Test

Current revision posted to Networking, Internet, Wireless by volcano11 on 11/12/2008 3:09:19 PM
