Upgrade Processor on Latitude CPX

Doe's the Dell Latitde CPX allow for the Pentium III
850MHz Mobile processor?

It uses the 440BX AGPset.

The absolute hightest CPU that can go into that system is a PIII 650

Please note that Dell currently has no upgrade path for the processors on these systems. While it may be possible to get an upgrade from a third party vendor, support for it would not come from Dell, as it was not supplied by Dell. If an upgrade path through Dell should become available, it will be posted on our website.

However, you should be able to upgrade the RAM and hard drive sizes, depending on your system. You can find the part list and prices at:

Dell says they do not have an upgrade path for
the CPX but I have been told that you
can upgrade to to 650MHz because they sell
a CPX with a 650MHz that has the same motherboard. I'm am not sure how hard it is
to upgrade a mobile CPU. I don't want to void my warranty. There is a website my friend told me about called http://www.pricewatch.com where vendors sell they products at below wholesale. I coudn't find a mobile 650MHz processor but I'll keep checking.

Is the mobile processor specific to Dell?
I mean...do I have to buy the chip from Dell
or can I get it from other sources?

Try shopping around for it, its a PIII 650 CPU on MMC-2 mobile module, don't know if you can buy on the net, but you might as well try and see

I was able to find the 650 mhz processor you are looking for. Go to Impactcomputers.com.

Click Dell parts

Click Dell laptops, about 3/4 of the way down the page you will see: Dell Latitude CPX 650gt parts and click on it.

Then click on Internal Parts and assemblies. Towards the bottom of the page you will see the 650mzh Processor module part number is  43CKM .. I think it's a good price. I am going to order it and the heat sink paste.. Good luck to all and let me know if you can find a manual on how to install it.. .
