Can I upgrade my notebook processor from an Intel Pentium Dual Core T2390 1.86GHz to a processor with 2.0GHz? If so, what would be the recommended processor for the upgrade?
Thanks :D
Any Core 2 Duo except the new 1066 MHz bus units will work.
Thank you!
And how would I go about replacing the processor? Do I need to take it in and get it done for me or is it possible to do on my own?
You must do it on your own, or pay to have it done - Dell doesn't support CPU upgrades. Keep the original CPU for warranty purposes - were to you have to send the system for repair or replacement, you will need to install the original CPU.
Looks like they have made it pretty easy on this system:

Source a processor on ebay or somewhere and some thermal paste.
Although I am a Dell Community Rockstar I am not a Dell or Microsoft employee.

Is there a cheaper upgrade that I can get? i'm thinking something under $200...
I'm sure theres something wrong with the price for the CPU customisation price for the one in red.
Anyway you should have a look for these processors on ebay for example.

Here is one sold from Hong Kong, just over $200 after delivery is added but seems to be the fastest one in the list:

I'd be VERY wary of anything coming from China - some have reported receiving ES (engineering sample) processors - these will not even run at full speed.
Thanks for all the suggestions! I ended up buying from imicros on ebay...it was a little over $100 & it was an Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile Processor T5750. which actually is the actual upgraded CPU offered by Dell when you build your own laptop. I figured it would be safest just to go with that.
Did you get thermal paste?
Heres the stuff I bought.

Hello !
I've got the Inspiron 1525 T2390 1.86Ghz, 533 MHz FSB. Great workhorse for non-graphical s/w development. Would upgrading the CPU result in a "noticeable" improvement? ... How much improvement for non-graphical usage (20%...50%...100%)?
Thank you :-)
