Precision T3400 cpu and memory upgrade question.

This question is not answered

Hi, I have a T3400 and I want to upgrade the CPU and the memory.

I was thinking of putting a Q9550 in, which seems fairly straight forward, my question is what memory do I then purchase?

Currently the unit takes

240 Pin DDR2 PC2-6400 ECC 800 memory.

If I upgrade the CPU to a Q9550 will it take 1333 memory or do I have to stick with 800?

I'd like to put 16Gig of memory in if I can and 1333 is quite a bit cheaper than 800.

If anyone can send me a link to memory that they know works, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Mark

As your query was posted a year ago I'm sure that you either found the answer or abandoned the task.

I found your post whilst looking for help on a T3400 related problem.

My T3400 User's Guide gives 4GB as maximum memory for 32 bit systems; 8GB is max memory for 64 bit systems.

Did you proceed with the CPU replacement?  Were there any problems?   That's an option I'm considering as I appear to have CPU related faults.

The Q9550 is one of the few Q series suitable for the 775 socket which is still available (just!).
