Dell dimension 4600 motherboard upgrade

  • Is there a motherboard with a pci-e slot that will fit my 4600 case without upgrading my HT processor or memory?

  • No. There are very few socket 478 boards with PCI Express, and none from Dell that will fit that chassis.

The overwhelming majority of them also require DDR-2 memory.
  • The Dell 4700 is the only pci-e mobo that will fit into the chasis. However, you must know that you need a new Socket 775 CPU, DDR2 RAM, a new 24-pin PSU, and of course, a new video card. You're better off buying a new barebones system, or just maxing out your 4600 with a Geforce 7800 GS. In my opinion, I would choose the latter as your computer is probably fast enough to play the games, but graphically it cannot handle those games with a low end video card.
