Dell OpenManage Systems Management software suite is a suite of system management applications for managing Dell PowerEdge systems. Dell OpenManage is available for XenServer 5.6 as a Supplemental Pack. This document describes the steps to download, install and upgrade OpenManage in XenServer 5.6, please read all instructions carefully before deciding to install OpenManage in XenServer 5.6.

Downloading OpenManage

To download the OpenManage Supplemental Pack for XenServer 5.6:

a) Go to support.dell.com
b) Select your line of business
c) Select Drivers and Downloads
d) Enter the service tag of the system or choose a server model and confirm your selection.
e) Select XenServer from the Operating System drop-down menu and then look in the Systems Management section.

Installing OpenManage

The Dell OpenManage Server Administrator is installed in Citrix® XenServer using the OpenManage Supplemental Pack. The OpenManage Supplemental Pack for XenServer 5.6 can be installed in one of two ways:

a) During installation of XenServer

Start the installation of XenServer as usual and follow the instructions on the screen. One of the early questions during the installation process of XenServer is if you want to install any Supplemental Packs, select ‘Yes’ and continue with the installation process.

After the base XenServer image is installed (5-10 minutes depending on the speed of your system), you will be prompted to insert your Supplemental Pack CD. Eject the XenServer install CD from the optical drive, insert the OpenManage Supplemental Pack CD and press OK. You will get a prompt that the ‘OpenManage Supplemental Pack’ was found and ask you to confirm installation. Select ‘Use’ and press Enter.

Note: If you have more than one Supplemental Pack (either the Linux Supplemental Pack from Citrix or other 3rd party applications) you can install them in any order, although Dell recommends that you install the OpenManage Supplemental Pack last.

After the installation of the OpenManage Supplemental Pack is complete (2-5 minutes, depending on the speed of your system), you will be asked if you want to install other Supplemental Packs. If not, select ‘Skip’ and press Enter. The XenServer installation process will then complete as usual.

After booting XenServer, run the following script once to configure openwsman:

# cd /opt/dell/srvadmin/etc
# ./autoconf_cim_component.sh

b) On a running system

1. Burn the Supplemental Pack ISO file to a CD or download the ISO file to your server.
2. If you are downloading the ISO file, mount it on a temporary directory:

# mount –o loop <openmanange-supplemental-pack-filename>.iso /mnt

If you burned the ISO file to a CD, insert it in the optical drive and run:

# mount /dev/cdrom /mnt

3. Install it:

# cd /mnt
# ./install

4. When the installation is complete, unmount the ISO file or CD:

# cd ..
# umount /mnt

Removing OpenManage

Removal of the OpenManage Supplemental Pack or of any OpenManage RPMs is _not_ supported by Dell or Citrix and it is not recommended. Manual removal of any RPM will leave the system in an inconsistent state which could make any potential issue debugging effort difficult or impossible. A future Supplemental Pack release will support removal of the OpenManage Supplemental Pack.

Upgrading OpenManage

Upgrades to the OpenManage Supplemental Pack are supported. When a new OpenManage Supplemental Pack version is released in the future, an upgrade to the existing installation will be allowed and supported.

Upgrading XenServer with OpenManage installed

If the XenServer image is upgraded to a newer XenServer update or release, the OpenManage Supplemental Pack will have to be re-installed since the new XenServer image will be placed on a different partition than the original. In this case, follow the same OpenManage installation instructions as before. However, please note that any OpenManage configuration settings saved on your server will be lost (conservation of OpenManage configuration settings across XenServer upgrades will be supported in a future OpenManage Supplemental Pack release).
