If it is not possible to install OMSA on the system, there is an option to get a Remote-DSET via the iDRAC7. This works with Dells G12 server and later.

You'll need a management system where DSET is installed with „Collector“ option. Afterwards you areable to collect the reports.

It is required that the systems iDRAC7 is setup correctly and an IP-Address is set. Additionally the SSH services have to be activated (default on).

In our example we're using a Windows based mashine.

Installing DSET

Run the downloaded file (elevated rights recommended).

Click Next on the first screen.

Choose „Install DSET“.

You must not change any options, just use the default settings.

It is also possible to just install the Remote Provider services.

Click Next to run the installation.

After the installation has finished open the command shell with elevated rights.

First check if a connection is possible. Simply ping the remote system.

Now navigate to the DSET folder using the cd (change dir) command.

Heres the default path:

C:\Programme (X86)\Dell\AdvDiags\DSET\bin

Use the following command line to retrieve the RemoteDSET:

DellSystemInfo.exe -s IP_der_iDRAC -u root -r c:\dset.zip

You are now prompted for the iDRAC password (default „calvin“)

Now a file named dset.zip will be created on drive c:\

This file can help while troubleshooting, in cases of errors send this file over to your Dell Support Agent.

If you wish to unzip the file for yourself use „dell“ when you're prompted for the password.
