Dell CIM Extensions Library Background, Purpose, and Scope

The Common Information Model (CIM) is an open standard that defines how managed elements in an IT environment are represented as a common set of objects and relationships between them. This is intended to allow consistent management of these managed elements, independent of their manufacturer or provider. CIM provides a common definition of management information for systems, networks, applications and services, and allows for vendor extensions.

The CIM standard is defined and published by the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF). The CIM standard is composed of a CIM Schema and the CIM Specifications. The CIM Schema provides the actual model definitions, while the CIM Specifications provide the detailed description of the behavior of the related management domain. Since most managed elements have product and vendor specific behavior, the CIM Schema is extensible in order to allow the producers of these elements to represent their specific features together with the common base functionality defined in the CIM Schema.

Dell OEM profiles extend the CIM Schema are developed and implemented to cover Dell product features that are not covered by DMTF profiles.

The purpose of these pages are to publish Dell extensions to DMTF profiles, provide their associated MOF files, and supporting documentation for the use of these profiles.
