Since the release of version 1.2, Repository Manager has supported Enterprise Clients in addition to server systems. Repository Manager can be used in conjunction with Dell Client System Update (DCSU) and Dell Client Manager. Important links are below. Watch this page for more information.
Dell customers that do not use a centralized systems management platform like Microsoft Configuration Manager 2007 (and WSUS/SCUP), KACE Appliances or Dell Client Manager can now use Dell Repository Manager Version 1.3 for Clients to help manage their Dell client systems. Dell Repository Manager offers an easy way to define, select and configure a baseline versioning for all systems software update/patches (BIOS, Driver, Firmware and Systems software applications) that need to be deployed in their environment. Dell Repository Manger supports all shipping Optiplex, Latitude and Precision platforms. The tool is a standalone application that can be installed on any System to create a custom local repository (network share) for update management. Once the repository is created, customers have multiple ways of using the repository:1. Manually map to the share and run updates2. Use scripted output methods supported by Dell Repository Manager3. Configure Dell Client System Update installed on managed node to point to the Repository for updates4. Configure Altiris Dell Client Manager Patch management to use Customized Local repository for deployment UpdatesUsing Dell Repository Manager an administrator can: (a) Define and Configure a list of Systems that they manage – Latitude E4310, E6410(b) Select the Category of updates that they are interested in – E.g. BIOS, Network Drivers, Wireless and Security Software(c) Create a baseline for internal Version management(d) Save and Export the selected baseline to a local network share(e) This tool will download the packages from Support.Dell.com and create a local Repository of Available Updates1. Manual UpdatesFor systems that you manually update, use the locally created repository that is network accessible, instead of going to support.dell.com.2. Use Repository Manager Scripted optionRepository Manager provides an option to export the option for a scripted install using batch files. Each Dell Software Update is designed to check for applicability rules prior to deploying the update on the system. Administrators can use this in combination with remote update management tools of their choice to connect to the custom network repository3. Using Dell Client System UpdateDell Client System Update (DCSU) is an easy-to-use software utility for updating Dell™ systems such as OptiPlex™, Latitude™, and Precision™ with the latest drivers, BIOS, firmware, and systems management software available from Dell’s support site. While by default the tool is configured to connect to Dell Support site, the tool can be configured to connect to the local specific baseline repository created using Dell Repository manager. The following screen shows the configuration of Dell Client System Update to use a UNC Share as a Repository. 4. Using Repository Manager with Dell Client ManagerDell Client Manager Version > 3.1 can also be configured to use the custom local repositories created by the Repository Manager tool. In order to use the Repository Manager feature, Patch management solution needs to be enabled in the DCM console. Once the custom catalog and the inventory collector tool import is successful, then the manage nodes can be configured to received updates.
