Hello,
I was able to inventory my DELL powervault 124t tape library. However, information like health status and device type are missing. Could someone help?
Thanks for helping!
Laurent
Hi Laurent,
Can you try hitting the tape device with the Dell Troubleshooting tool? Let me know what the results are from the SNMP test.
thx
Rob
Hey Rob,
Thanks for the answer. Here's what I have:
SNMP
MIB-II (System Name) sysName not set
Thanks!
This is the result set from my PV136 tape device. I wonder, do you have the most current firmware on that device? Can you confirm SNMP is configured correctly on it? Interesting / concerning that sysName is not set.
MIB-II (System Name) DELL PowerVault 136T
Dell PowerVault 136T (Agent Version) 161D
I should have the latest firmware. This is what I have from the web interface: Autoloader
Status: Idle
Version: V86.0 (0056.0h)
Regarding the configuration of snmp, the only thing I cant set up is the ip address of the snmp server.
Ok,
And of course, the snmp community string is case sensitive. That could impact device communication as well.
I wonder what happens if you try a MIB walk of that 124 tape using a tool like the iReasoning mib browser. That might help you isolate to that tape device or snmp agent rather than OME.
I don't see anywhere where to insert the community string...
Ok, so the GUI for the PV132/136 seems to have a place that let's you set the SNMP community string. It is possible that the PV124 does not support remote discovery. I don't have a unit handy but have made an inquiry.
If that is the case then I would suspect the PV124 is supported in OME for _alerts only_. That means that you can get SNMP alerts from the PV124 in the OME console, but it won't be classified on the tree with proper roll up health.
Thanks,
Hi,
Do you solve your problem with Dell PV124T ? I have the same question :
A SNMP request for public or private string return "sysName Not Set"... and no more information
Thanks for your reply
Thomas
Hi and thanks for your question.
If I remember this issue correctly, I think that this tape model does not have a place in its GUI that lets you set the SNMP community string, etc. So it is not as manageable as the PV136.
So I thinkt the PV124 is supported in OME for _alerts only_. That means that you can get SNMP alerts from the PV124 in the OME console, but it won't be classified on the tree with proper roll up health.
Hope this helps.
