Can OME manage desktops and laptops? I find them as "unknown" when I do a discovery, and it pulls their service tag number but nothing else. Is OME strictly for servers? I was using WMI for discovery. If it's not, wany recommendations for client management?
Is symantec/altiris Dell Management Console still a good solution? How is it compared to OpenManage Essentials?

The current version of OME does not support clients. I will pass on your request to our marketing team. DMC has a larger feature set and may be appropriate if you have other Symantec/Altiris solutions in your environment. If you want basic h/w monitoring consider trying OME and see if you like the feature set. It's pretty easy to set up in a VM if you want to give it a test drive.
