I'm running OME on the latest version released a couple of weeks ago. Before that I was using the beta. However it is only showing some very limited hard drive data for out servers. We are running dell poweredge servers ranging from 2650 to the newer 810. I have osma installed on all monitored servers but am not seeing any hard drive data in the reports for OME.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the post. Do you know if you have the "Storage" part of OMSA/Server Administrator installed? If you look at the hardware inventory for the server, do you see: Server Administrator *and* Server Administrator (Storage Management) in the Agent Information Table?
I think that you have to have the storage mgt component installed to see the disks.
Yes, If I login to the OSMA on the local box or even from OME I can see the storage devices or drives on the box, however the drives do not show up in inventory on OME.
Ok, and (sorry to belabor the point), but you see the words: Server Administrator (Storage Management" when you look in the agent table? What version does it report.
Not sure If I'm following. When looking at OSMA I see System, Main System Chassis, Software, Storage in the left pane. I do not see any clear heading that states Server Administrator Storage Management.
In OME, you can click on a server, the inventory will show up in the right side. Under the Software Agent Information table, you should see "Server Administrator (Storage Management)". That is where you will see the agent version.
Gotcha, I was looking in the wrong place. Under software agent info, I see server admin and the version but nothing that stats Storage Management.
Ok, that may indicate that you did not install the optional storage management component when you installed OMSA/Server Administrator on the managed node (target).
- need to use SNMP (since WMI does not show us storage)
-need to have a PERC card insatlled
-need to install the storage part of OMSA
Hope that helps
Rob, thanks for all the info, I was not aware of the storage management add-in. I have been looking at the OSMA install and realize that I may not have included that feature as I was just accepting the default install. I'm going install on a few servers and test. Thanks for your help.
You bet. Keep me posted on your progress with OME. We are eager for your feedback and suggestions.
This issue has not resolved. I made sure storage management was installed and still nothing. It isn't showing up in OME, nor am I getting any hard drive information.
One thing to check would be the protocol used for discovery/inventory of these servers. As Rob mentioned in his earlier post, OMSA does not provide the storage data over WMI, it is only available through SNMP. You will have to enable SNMP in the discovery wizard if you haven't done it already.
I have the snmp traps set up and I have the snmp discovery enabled as well.
Ok, snmp. That's good. You mentioned you were going to install the storage component of OMSA on a few servers. Can you confirm that you see the following when you look at the h/w inventory: Under the Software Agent Information table, you should see "Server Administrator (Storage Management)"
From your earlier response, you are saying you have installed storage management for OMSA but it's not showing up in OME under Software Agent Information. Couple of more things to suggest would be to restart OMSA service on the target as listed in FAQ #3.7, delete the server in OME and rediscover.
