DMC - Protocol Credential and Group Permissions

  • I cannot get DMC to handle permissions for Protocol Credentials by using the build in "Symantec Administrators" or AD group. I can successfully edit the permissions for a given protocol credential, add the build in group or AD group and give it Full Control Permissions. The problem is that when I login to DMC using a user that is in a group that has full control permissions for the given protocol credential the user cannot see the protocol credential.

If however I configure the permissions for the protocol credential and add the actual user to have full control it does work.

This is not optimal, and the interface lets me use AD groups and local groups from the DMC server. This should work! But it does not.

    Anyone seen this before?

    Hi Harald,

Credential Manager was not supporting group level security in DMC 1.0.1 and it is slated to work for DMC 1.0.2, later this year.

    Thanks,
    Rob
  • Rob,

    Thank you for the reply.

I noticed that Symantec Installation Manager now has 8 updates available. Mostly Altiris SP2 stuff as well as a new version of Patch Management for Dell Servers. But when I try to install this it complains that SP2 is not supported by version 1.0 and 1.0.1 of DMC...

It is confusing that it shows available updated that has requirements that cannot yet be met....

    Cheers,
    Harald

    Hi Harald,

Yeah, sorry this is a bit confusing isn't it...

Symantec and Dell are sometimes on slightly different release schedules. We are currently working on confirming that SP2 does not introduce any problems with DMC. So until this is done, it is blocked from being installed to DMC 1.0 and 1.0.1. Once we finish our testing (currently in progress), we will release DMC 1.0.2, which will contain SP2 as well.

    Regards,
    Rob
