  • when installing DMC V 1.1, the Symantec Installation Manager indicates there were errors during installation of the Symantec Management Platform SP3 (7.0.7270). Unfortunately, I don't see any more specific info as to the exact error(s). Any suggestions? THANKS!
  • I had to rebuild my DMC this week. I for some reason can't get it to install again. My guess is that Symantec has released SP4 for all of it's products but the DMC 1.1 is not compatible with SP4 so during the install the DMC piece fails. Not sure if that is it but that is my guess. Can't find a solution to this issue either.
  • I was able to run the install selecting SP3, but got stuck at the step "Notification Server Configuration." the Symantec Installation Manger throws the following error message: "Unable to create a new directory within the specified web location. Verify that the fully qualified domain name resolves back to the server where you are installing Notification Server on." However, all the settings are correct. I am installing to the local server, not a remote server. I can ping by name and IP address. I checked the permissions in IIS and the NTFS permissions on the folder that IIS uses. will keep at it.....good luck.
  • I was able to successfully install the DMC V 1.1. I had to do a clean install of Windows 2003 server, as it's not supported. It came preloaded on the new Dell server we purchased to run DMC & Altiris CMS & SMS. So far, so good. However, when I attempt to install Altiris CMS, I get an readiness check error indicating that DMC 1.1 is not compatible with SMP SP4, as expected. However, I installed the DMC with the SIM/SMP SP3 that came on the DMC 1.1 DVD. Additionally, in the SIM console, under product updates, SMP SP4 appears as an available update, so i know that I didn't install it!!!!! Strange....
  • SP4 is available, however there is a pre-requisite check/block which (if you have DMC installed) will not allow you to install SP4 because Dell does not yet support SMP SP4 & DMC. Once Dell does their certification/testing on SMP SP4 the installation block will be removed and you'll be able to upgrade to SP4. You're right that it's strange - it shouldn't show SP4 as an available update if you can't install it.
  • over at the Dell DMC forum, a Dell product manager informed me that I could install the Altiris CMS & SMS from the DMC DVD, as the DVD contains SP3 code. I was able to install SMS, but not the CMS as the CMS code is NOT on the DVD. The Dell manager confirmed this. However, I changed to Symantec Installation manager to point to the Symantec Product listing XML file and was able to download and install CMS 7 SP3 from there. Convoluted process, but it worked. the Symantec XML file is available at http://www.solutionsam.com/solutions/pl/symantec.pl.xml The main page for the DMC forum is http://en.community.dell.com/groups/dell_management_console/default.aspx
    Thanks and good luck!
