When updating Dell PS Series (EqualLogic) SAN environments, there are many things to consider for a successful upgrade process. For example: Operating system and application settings are crucial to maintain volume connectivity and seamless operation during the upgrade process, component variables like FS Series appliances may be in the SAN environment and disk firmware may also need to be upgraded.
As result of these complexities a new firmware upgrade tool (Dell Storage Update Manager) has been developed to help users understand and guide them through the upgrade process. This tool is available as a launch item from the EqualLogic Group Manager UI, SAN Headquarters, or the link below.
In addition to the tool an operating system and initiator best practices and recommended settings guide is available to verify hosts and applications are set correctly to assure successful upgrades. The Dell EqualLogic PS Series Storage Arrays iSCSI Initiator and Operating System Considerations Guide (Optimizing Your SAN Environment for High Availability) is available on the PS Series firmware download page or at the link below.
Also please refer to the Updating Firmware for Dell EqualLogic PS Series Storage Arrays and FS Series Appliances guide below for proper firmware upgrade paths and instructions prior to updating PS Series arrays and FS Series appliances. This guide is also located on the PS Series firmware download page.
