Read Failure & BAD tape

This question is not answered

We are using PoweEdge Rs520 server and PV-124T autoloader with LTO5 tape drive for the backup operations. Recently, tape alert TA[11] CleaningMedia and TA[20] CleanNow occured. The cleaning tape was inserted, the tape alert was CleaningSuccessful but the status was loading. After all this cleaning operation, the cleaning tape was ejected. The tapes for backup after getting into the drive get label as BAD  and Tape Alert currently is TA[05] ReadFailure. As a reult of this no backup opeartion can be done by the server. Please suggest a solution to this ASAP.

Thanks & Regards

  • Hello Divya,

It sounds like there may be an issue with your tape drives read & write heads. The best thing would be to look at the support log from your PV124T so that we can see what other errors are being given by the drive. If you can login to the web utility then go to the Error Logs and Diagnostics and select save logs. I will send you an email & if you can reply back with the log so that I can review it.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
