Upgrading Equallogic Firmware
Hello,
I'm trying to update the firmware on my PS Series array from version 4.1.5 to 4.3.2 and I receive an error message "update failed", reason: "Insufficient free space to expand kit; required 21MB, available: 19MB". I successfully upgraded one array, but am having difficulty with another.
Does anyone have advice on how to correct this?
Thank you.

RE: Upgrading Equallogic Firmware
If you FTP to the member's IP address, are there logs or anything hanging out in there? I'm wondering if perhaps log or support files are consuming free space, and that deleting those unneeded files might free it up.

RE: Upgrading Equallogic Firmware
I did exactly what you mentioned and deleted any logs that were there and it didn't make any difference at all. The logs were really small in size.

RE: Upgrading Equallogic Firmware
Hi race_man6,
I did some research on this error and found a couple of other folks that had the same error. It's an easy thing to overcome --involves removing a few core files most likely. I recommend you call support and they will guide you through the correct process of what can be removed to create space for the upgrade.

RE: Upgrading Equallogic Firmware
Thank you for the response. I was just getting ready to post that there were two MgmtExec.Core files in the directory.

RE: Upgrading Equallogic Firmware
We had the same exact issue, but our space use was related to diag files. If you run the diags, I recommend you delete them off the array right aftwards to avoid upgrade issues. Unfortunalty if you go into the GUI and run the diags it is not clear these files are left behind. It would be nice if this step was added to the firmware update instructions, I'm sure many more people will have this same problem.

RE: Upgrading Equallogic Firmware
I had this problem this morning and running a dir command when in the ftp window showed two MgmtExec.core files
MgmtExec.Core dated August 2010 @ 10342400 bytes
then
MgmtExec.1.Core dated January 2010 @ 10338304 bytes
It looks as though the .1 file had been replicated at some time in the past, I tried to copy it to my local machine (just in case I needed it) but got a permissions error, so just deleted the older .1.core file.
Reran the firmware upgrade and bingo, was able to successfully install.
Rebooted and both controllers have successfully applied the fw. I would recommend other call Dell first, but the above worked for me :)

RE: Upgrading Equallogic Firmware
Just contacted EqualLogic Support about the issue when updating to FW 5.0.2. on our array's: It's safe to remove ALL of the .core files when you FTP to your array. After that enough space is available.
