The Dell Enterprise PG Reliability Engineering team has published a Fresh Air Cooling study. It highlights Dell's recent announcement to warranty fresh air cooling in data centers. The study also backs a TechCenter Tech Tuesday Chat covering Best Practice Chillerless. You can read more in this blog post about the Fresh Air Cooling study on the Dell TechCenter blog.
Fresh air cooling is the use of outside air to cool a data center. It saves on operating expenses because you will run the chiller fewer hours by keeping the window open more often, saves on capex when you forgo building a chiller plant and depend entirely on fresh air, and requires hardware that can tolerate a wider range of environmental conditions such as Dell fresh air rated products.
The entire updated Fresh Air research report (04-06-2012) is attached on the Dell TechCenter Community Media page.
