Written by: Murray White - Solution Architect at Vision SolutionsThe following video demonstrates how to protect a Windows Small Business Server 2011 (SBS 2011) to a standby Server, using the “Full Server Failover” protection option of Double-Take Availability 6.0.The demonstration specifically details:1) Configuring Double-Take Availability with a Full Server Protection job2) Synchronize data from source server to standby (target) server3) Monitor the Double-Take job4) Failover from source server to standby (target) server
Double-Take Requirements for SBS
In addition to the Core Double-Take requirements (see Double-Take User Guide), use these requirements for full server protection.
Microsoft .NET Framework—Microsoft .NET Framework version 3.5 Service Pack 1 is required on the source and target. This version is not included in the .NET version 4.0 release. Therefore, even if you have .NET version 4.0 installed, you will also need version 3.5.1. You can install this version from the Double-Take CD, via a web connection during the Double-Take installation, or from a copy you have obtained manually from the Microsoft web site.
If you are installing on Server Core 2008 R2, .NET 3.5.1 functionality is included with the operating system but is disabled by default. You will need to enable it prior to installing Double-Take. See your Server Core documentation for the specific commands to enable the .NET functionality.
Supported configurations—The following table identifies the supported configurations for a full server job.
Double-Take Foundation Edition Licensing
Windows 2003 and 2003 R2 operating systems
Windows 2008 and 2008 R2 operating systems
Virtual server protection: There is no virtual server (guest-level or host-level) protection with the Foundation Edition.
Notes: You can install the Foundation Edition on a server running other server Windows operating systems, so you do not have to pay extra for an upgraded Double-Take license. When the Foundation Edition is installed on a server running these other server Windows operating systems, the following limitations will apply.1) The server will function in a target role only.2) The target-only server can only protect a source that is running the Double-Take Foundation Edition and one of the operating system editions listed for the Foundation Edition.3) Full server protection is the only supported method of failover.
