Frequently Asked Questions about OMCI and ConfigMgr 2007 - As this is a wiki, we welcome your input to all content - Please add FAQs that you feel should be here.
Q: Do I need OMCI installed in order to get benefit from the OMCI MOF for ConfigMgr?A: Yes. The ConfigMgr MOF reads information deposited in WMI by OMCI. OMCI needs to be installed on each machine you want to instrument. Instructions for installation of OMCI can be found here.Q: How do I add the OMCI MOF to ConfigMgr?A: The OMCI MOF additions need to be added to the SMS_DEF.MOF in ConfigMgr. Full instructions on how to accomplish this are found in the OMCI WhitePaper. No changes to the configuration.mof file are necessary.Q: Where can I get more information about MOF additions to ConfigMgr?A: Microsoft has this page that describes the differences between the MOFs in ConfigMgr. MyITForum has an excellent resource here.Q: What happens when I upgrade or apply a service pack to ConfigMgr?A: Best practice has always been to backup your SMS_DEF.MOF file before applying any patches, upgrades, and/or service packs to ConfigMgr. Service Packs and other ConfigMgr upgrades often replace the SMS_DEF.MOF file, so any changes will need to be reapplied after the upgrade completes.
