Generally the LC is used to install the OS along with latest driver/firmware available for the particular platform/OS.

Till date there was no facility available to do unattended OS installation using the LC, but this is possible in SLES12.

This can be achieved in two different ways.

  • The user can use the default autoyast.xml file for deployment which is created by LC.

  1. Enter into F10 or Lifecycle Controller & select the OS deployment under, & select the desired OS for installation.
  2. LC will create a OEMDRV partition along with drivers & autoyast.xml file.
  3. Boot into the OS DVD or ISO.

Or

  • The user has to follow these four steps to have a customized autoyast.xml during the SLES12 deployment using LC.

  1. Prepare an autoyast.xml which is a kick start file for unattended SLES12 installation.
  2. Enter into F10 or Lifecycle Controller & select the OS deployment under, & select the desired OS for installation.
  3. Place the autoyast.xml file in OEMDRV partition which is created by LC.
  4. Boot into the OS DVD or ISO.

The SLES12 has a  New implementation in New Yast installer that it tries to detect the autoyast.xml file in block device which is having a label name “OEMDRV” during the boot,

due to this the SLES12 installer kicks the unattended installation if autoyast.xml file is available in OEMDRV.
