  • The NIC stops reponding to and input. It seem like it happens at night because you can not ping the server in the morning. The backup run at night. It has happen during the day . Server appears fine and no events in Windows log
    BIOS PE2900-020601CBIOS
    BMC BMC_FRMW_WIN_R202148
    NIC Bcom_LAN_14.1.5_W2K3_8_A00
Dell Switch 1GIG port and 19 10/100 ports Server is on the GIG port switch is old

I just brought a new Dell Switch to help with the problem 10/100/1000 I updated it with the lastest and greatest FW
I took the old switch out put the new one in while the server was on. The NIC stop responding. I changes the NIC from auto to 1GIG Auto that was the only setting that was 1 GIG. Still not responding. I rebooted and it started responding.

I am at the lastest Drives and Firmware for everything. The fact that the NIC stop responding as soon as I switch to the new switch I believe I will have the problem again.

    Any ideas

  • Looks like a tough problem to nail down. Although rare, could be hardware problem. You have other machines experiencing the same issue, or just this one ?

Unfortunately we are not tied in with the support part of Dell. I suggest you open a case with support so they can help troubleshoot and replace the NIC/motherboard if necessary.
  • Hi,

Did you find what the issue was with the NIC, I have exactly the same thing with two brand new Dell R410 servers, no event viewer issues, all other servers working alright.
