  • Looking at 2 x Powerconnect M6220 switches per chassis w/ 2 x 10GbE uplink ports per chassis. Would like to (1) verify if we can “EtherChannel” the 4 together to create a 40GbE link back to the Cisco 6509? (2) Would also like to understand if there is any conflict w/ the Dell Infiniband style uplink adapter w/ the Cisco? (3) Can I manage the Dell switch via the web and telnet? Thank you, any feedback is greatly appreciated. (Sorry if duplicate note, submitted on Friday but don't see it listed.)
  • Nationals7, I hope the below helps:

1 - Yes, you will need to use standard LACP vs. EtherChannel, but it is tested and supported.
2 - I believe Cisco uses a different connector on the 6509, but Dell carries cables that go between the two types for CX4. Your Dell team can help you track down the right cables.
3 - Yes, the M6220 can be managed by console, SNMP, Web, Telnet, SSH, Carrier Pigeon, etc. :)

    1) This white paper will definitely help with integrating the M6220's and the Cisco 6509.
    http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/pwcnt/en/deploy-cisco-catalyst-network.pdf

Note: They are using M8024 switches in the white paper, but the M6220's should support the same features used in this document. On the plus side, the M6220's are stackable and the M8024's are not. And yes, you can use all four 10G uplinks together in a LAG or LACP port-channel configuration. The max number of ports in a port-channel is 8.

    2) The M6220's don't support Infiniband. They are Ethernet ONLY. If you're talking about CX-4 cables for Ethernet this should work fine.

    3) Yes, you can manage the Dell switch through direct console, CMC console redirection, HTTP, HTTPS, SNMP, Telnet, and SSH. Telnet and HTTP are enabled by default, but the switch requires an IP address first. The IP address can be configured on the out-of-band management interface, which is accessed through the CMC 1G Ethernet port, or on the in-band management VLAN interface which would be accessed through the external uplink ports or internal ports on the switch itself. The IP address would have to be configured from the direct console connection or CMC console redirection. The out-of-band IP could also be configured from the CMC web GUI.
