10G SFP+ has link but no traffic

  • I have 3x 10G SFP+ links between an M6220 and two M8024 in another chassis, the first two links work fine (one to each M8024) and carry traffic for VLAN-200 and VLAN-130 between the chassis, but the 3rd link (VLAN-201) wont flow traffic, it has link lights at both ends which go out if you do a "shutdown" so they turn on and off under control OK but no VLAN traffic flows, both show as "UP" from the CLI. The VLANS are all fully functional as VM's on the VLAN's can talk to each other but not between the two chassis on the VLAN identified as 201.

    m6220 config

    !
    interface Te2/2/1
    duplex full
    switchport access vlan 200
    exit
    !
    interface Te2/2/2
    duplex full
    speed 10000
    switchport access vlan 201
    exit
    !
    interface Te3/2/1
    duplex full
    switchport access vlan 130
    exit

    M8024 config
    interface ethernet 1/xg17
    description 'Fibre Link 1 - VLAN200'
    switchport access vlan 200
    exit
    !
    interface ethernet 1/xg18
    description 'Fibre Link 2 - VLAN201'
    switchport access vlan 201
    exit
    exit

    2nd M8024
    !
    interface ethernet 1/xg17
    switchport access vlan 130
    exit

There is no rocket science to the config, its very basic at present. The m6220 has the latest firmware, the M8024's are one major release behind, but the would not make two fibre interfaces work and a 3 not.

Could it be the SFP+ interfaces or an issue in the cable???

  • Hello.

Maybe I overlooked it in your text but what kind of cable did you use?

If you using LWL you have to make sure it's om3 or om4 for SFP+ (10GbE). Cable with om1 and om2 are only supporting SFP (1GbE)!
