Dell's PowerEdge 11G servers -- based on Intel's Nehalem micro-architecture -- include new features intended to improve performance and energy efficiency across a wide range of server workloads. Dell's HPCC engineering team recently published a whitepaper that describes optimal BIOS settings for High Performance Computing.

Optimal BIOS Settings for High Performance Computing (HPC) with PowerEdge 11G Servers

The recommendations in this paper are based on application performance data gathered in our lab. We measured the performance and energy efficiency of 11G servers running a wide range of commercial and opensource applications. The results of this study were used to create HPC-specific BIOS settings that can be factory configured for our HPC customers.

Please share questions or feedback. Are their any other applications you would like to see? We have lots of data that did not make it into this paper we are happy to share.
