MD3200i Segment Size and NTFS allocation size
Hey,
I'm trying to configure our new MD3200i for best performance before putting into production. What will the best segment size be for a 9TB file server? What should the corresponding NTFS allocation size be when I format this volume in windows?
Thanks!

RE: MD3200i Segment Size and NTFS allocation size
This is just my opinion, nothing official because really there are a lot of variables.
The NTFS allocation size should be the smallest possible that will allow you to access the entire volume.
Segment size can depend on the type of data you are storing and the size of the data "chunks".
Large, sequential data like video will perform better with larger segments. Small, random data works better with smaller segments but really the difference in performance is probably very difficult to notice.
Unless you are storing a steady stream of data, pick a value in the middle because most data is going to be a mix of sequential and random, large and small.
