Replaced bad hot spare with new disk on MD3000i - now shows as offline

I have an PowerEdge MD3000i array and it had an disk that was reported as bad and it was marked as a hot spare. So I hot-swapped the drive with a new one and it blinked green. Then it went dark (no lcds are lit or blinking). I checked the Storage Array Manager and it showed the drive as "offline" and I am unable to configure it as a hot spare.

I have done reseating the drive and same results. Even tried running the smcli command:

C:Program FilesDellMD Storage Managerclient>smcli -n "<Storage Array Name>" -c "revive physicalDisk [0,12]";

and it didn't change anything.. script ran fine but it remained offline.

Any advise on how to get it back online so I can use it as a new hot spare?

Hey guys,

I got an Alienware M17x R3 from the outlet last week, now... it came with no drivers or anything so I downloaded them through the dell site. Got the latest nvidia driver from nvidia's site. However, the laptop on internet browsering lasts 1 1/2 hours... which is pants.

I checked online and some guys were talking about the Alienware M17X R3 has two gfx basic Intel one to conserve power and the nvidia GTX460M when it is needed.

However I downloaded the intel drivers from the dell site and it reports that my system does not meet the minimum specifications!

Very frustrating... any ideas?

Looking for information about this solution I found some Dell internal documentation talking about a dedup ratio of x15. It also talks about a backup storage footprint reduction by more than 15X.

I would need to know if there is any information talking about what type of data can get that dedup/backup reduction ratios and which cannot. Customers are specially interested about Virtual Machines backups and the improvement they could get using DR 4000 for their ESX Virtual Machines backups (and VMs from other hypervisors)

Inter-Switch Connects - General or Trunk mode

Hello,

Looking for a best practice for the above question.

Generally, most times i find myself using general mode and then taking vlan 1 off of the link, I've had some issues with Trunk mode especially on the newer switches and dell's new way of doing trunk connections (it used to be that you would specify which VLANs can go over the trunk, now they all get tagged and you have to remove them sepcifically in the code)

Any advice would be appreciated,

I have a very strange situation and its been long time that i am having trouble with this bug. My server on a redhat enterprise restarts quite often making me to go crazy. I have tried every other solution being suggested but they all are in vain..finally, i am hoping that i can get a solution here.

Can't use the wirless internet!!

Dear sir,
I have Dell laptop Inspiron n5010. And i can't use the wirless internet, every time i choose any network it says that i'm connected but there is a yellow triangle indicated that i can log in the net and the network appear as limitd connect. I don't know why??
please informe me for the reason and if there is any setting that i should do for adjust the wireless connection ..?

Raid 6 Accelerated implementation

Hello,

We are looking at the PS6100XS but have some questions about Raid 6 accelerated.

How is it striped? The way I understand Raid 6, parity info is striped across each disk. In this case, for a write - the write would not be committed/acknowledged until the parity info was written, thus reducing the array speed down to the slowest disk in the array.

Can you explain how raid 6 accelerated is implemented and how it addresses this problem?

With BIOS Setup, MSSR0~MSSR5 is handled Not MSS.
How Can i use MSS.
In R710, there are 146GB * 2 Disks and 500GB * 4 Disks.

Hi There,
I am currently running windows 2003 server (x86) & very interested to upgrade the server to Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64). please help.
I downloaded the Dell Windows OS install support pack however donot know how to use the extrated folders & files. I bought this Server when i used to work for HP Canada.
Since HP bought out the company & started removing the Dell Serer with their own HP servers.

I am planning to use two powerconnect switches to connect to an EMC NX4 SAN iscsi array and will be running two hosts with vsphere 4.1i.
Should I have any concerns with mixing the two switches. I am unable to purchase the 5424's as they have been replaced with the 5524.
I have an existing 5424 which I wish to re-use.

Hi, My respected customer have more than 10 EQL PS storages & half of them working on Firmware v4.2.0. He is requesting to upgrade the FW to the latest.
I would like to ask question: can I go directly update the firmware latest v.5.1.0 "OR" I have to go step by step. I mean to say 1st I have to install v4.2.1 -> v.4.3.2 -> v4.3.4 -> v4.3.5 etc. etc.

Hi,

Is there anything we need to watch out for in the switch configuration when we have a 2 switches Equalogic configuration with 8024F (LAG in between). I have a BackupExec 2010 server with two connections, each connected to the each switch and another 2 connections from the PowerVault TL2000 tape libary. We seems not to get it working when the the initiator was pointed to the 2nd IP address where the BackupExec server second connection connected to the second switch where the tape library is NOT connected to.If we move the tape library to the 2nd switch, it works if the initiator address is the second IP address of the backupexec server and not the first one. We thought that could be something on the switch that we need to set in order for it to work. Seems like the traffic is not passing through the LAG connection. If all connections are connected to only one single switch, it works fine.
