Raj_Shresta sure...will take it

huntthemducks Kace is more for Small/medium business and client
Dell-JeffS Hi stevo, hit "action.... recent room history" to catch up on the conversation
Cesar any more new features/capabilitiles?
Raj_Shresta More features on Dmc 1.1: Added Power monitoring feature for Dell servers
Raj_Shresta Patch management (out-of-band) on Lifecycle Controller enabled Dell servers. (requires Lifecycle Controller version 1.3 and idrac version 6).
Eric_Szewczyk Kace Kbox is also built on Free Bsd, not Windows which Dmc requires.
Raj_Shresta You can now gather inventory for Dell Equallogic devices.
Dell-ScottH ahh huntthemducks .. Hey Todd

Dennis_S joined.
Raj_Shresta I can go a little bit in detail on some of the features
Cesar please do..
Raj_Shresta Symantec Notification Server 7.0 Sp3 addresses a number of issues and optimizations. You can view articles at kb.altiris.com #45857 & #49356
huntthemducks sorry
huntthemducks yes, it's Todd

srvrgeek left.
Dell-ScottH :-)
Raj_Shresta Power monitoring: Enables you to monitor power consumption counters for Dell servers. Pre-req: Dell server and instrumentation (omsa) should support power monitoring.
huntthemducks So, the big features of Dmc 1.1 are Sql 2008 support, power monitoring, Out of Band patching and Ie 8
Raj_Shresta Power metrics data is accessed over Snmp and Wmi protocols.
Raj_Shresta You can record single probe readings like amperage per power supply (in A), energy consumption (in Kwh), and so on.
wijagr if you have a net-x box will it be easy to do a upgrade to Dmc 1.1
Raj_Shresta The Real-time Performance viewer currently provides real time power consumption for only one server.

huntthemducks left.

Doug left.
Rebecca_H Anything new in regards to client management?
Eric_Szewczyk Yes to the Netx question and upgrading to Dmc 1.1. You simply do that through Sim: Symantec Installation Manager.

JoeG joined.

Dell-ScottH Welcome Todd .. I liked huntthemducks better :-)
Dell-ToddR hahahs...sorry
Dell-ScottH oooffffaaaa, that was one heck of a cut and paste
Dell-ToddR wanted to be correctly identifed as Dell

Randy_Miller joined.
Dell_Gabe sorry table didnt go through well...
chris_smith_ics_se for Esx4 servers, does 1.1 provide more support or is it still to be used just for inventory and alerting?
Dell-JeffS Hi 8bits1byte, Randy_miller hit "action.... recent room history" to catch up

s joined.
Raj_Shresta On agentless inventory, we added support to gather inventory for Dell Equallogic devices
Dell-JeffS Hi s, you can hit "action.... recent room history" to catch up
Raj_Shresta For Esx4, it is still inventory and monitoring...
Dell_Gabe power inventory counters: (10g and 11g refer to supported server generation)
chris_smith_ics_se thx
Dell_Gabe 10g* Support: • Numeric Values o Peak Amperage (A) o Peak Power (W and Btu/hr) • String Values o Peak Amperage Start Time (datetime) o Peak Amperage Time (datetime) o Peak Power Start Time (datetime) o Peak Power Time (datetime) 11g* Support (additional counters): • Numeric Values o Power Budget (W and Btu/hr) o Power Supply - Rated Input Wattage (W and Btu/hr) o Idle Power (W and Btu/hr) o Max Potential Power (W and Btu/hr) o Peak Headroom (W and Btu/hr) • String Values o Power Profile (not including custom data)
Dell_Gabe power real-time counters (hopefully more readable this time)
Dell_Gabe o 10g* Support:  Numeric Values • Amperage per Power Supply (A) • Energy Consumption (kwh) • Power Consumption (W and and Btu/hr)  String Values • Energy Consumption Start Time (datetime) o 11g* Support (additional counters):  Numeric Values • Instantaneous Headroom (W and Btu/hr)
Abhijit If Esx4 is 11G server, you can do hardware patching as well
greyopz Is this getting any better at being firewall friendly, or does it still drive network admins nits? I have 1500 servers behind other people's firewalls, and most won't tolerate the port opening
Dell-ToddR There is a great troubleshooting tool out there to use
Dell-ToddR so you can tell what ports you need to open
Dell_Gabe also note for power management we will automatically detect servers which support this at discovery time and group these accordingly
greyopz so probably still too many ports required?
Cesar any plans to improve the Resource Association Grid?
Dell-ToddR for greyopz, there are ports associated with protocols that we can't change. More of an industry thing than a Dell thing
Dell-ToddR Snmp, Wsman, etc.
Raj_Shresta Ns 7 Sp3 has addressed some of the issue with Resource Association grid
John What are all the ports needed with Dmc?
Dell-ToddR There is a document here on Dell Tech Center under whitepapers that shows the ports needed
Cesar k thanks!
greyopz i can always hope for simoplification, can't I ::biggrin

foxj77 left.
Dell-ToddR sure! I agree 100%
Raj_Shresta You can view the Kb articles at kb.altiris.com #45857 & #49356
wijagr will Dmc 1.1 be in sync with Smp service pack releases.. it seems each time a Service pack is release for Symantec it breaks Dmc or requires a hot fix of some sort
Raj_Shresta Patch management: Patch management solution in earlier Dmc releases required Altiris agent to be deployed on the client.
chris_smith_ics_se thanks
Raj_Shresta we have few challenges in Smp service pack releases...

srvrgeek joined.
Raj_Shresta some of them are addressed....
Raj_Shresta Like for Dmc 1.1 based on Sp3, there is no need of a hot fix
Raj_Shresta Patch management: Patch management solution in earlier Dmc releases required Altiris agent to be deployed on the client. In Dmc 1.1, Dmc supports patch for servers with Lifecycle Enabled Controller. The Symantec Management Agent, formerly Altiris Agent, is not required to perform patch server update on servers with Lifecycle Controller.

srvrgeek left.

srvrgeek joined.
wijagr can you block Smp servie pack releases from Dmc so this does not hurt a customer when they run Sim
Raj_Shresta Bios, firmware, Dell Update Packages (apac Dups) such as operating system driver pack, 32-bit diagnostics, and Unified Server Configurator (usc), can be patched using Lifecycle Controllers on Servers.
Raj_Shresta Currently Smp Sp3 is blocked until Dmc 1.1 goes out
wijagr excellent
Eric_Szewczyk Can you elaborate on Smp Sp3 being blocked until Dmc 1.1 goes out?

Brett left.
Dell-ToddR yes, we do block service packs in Sim
Randy_Miller Customer stated that Altiris Agent won't work on 2008 core. Do we know when this will be fixed?
Dell-ToddR for instance, Dmc 1.1 will block Sp4 out of the gate

Nilesh_Bagad left.
Dell-ToddR Randy, send me the case number.
Raj_Shresta Technically a user can install Sp3 thru' Sim using Global Product Listing (internet) or thru' a Dmc Dvd
Dell_Gabe power also provides 1xmany (tabular) reports on the inventory counters listed
Raj_Shresta Dmc 1.1 Dvd will go out in April...until then we block Sp3 in Gpl
Randy_Miller I don't have a case it came up in a discussion with Its and Ky schools.
Dell-ToddR ok. email me and let's discuss more
Dell-ToddR Randy that is

srvrgeek left.

srvrgeek joined.
Dell-ToddR Raj, we block Sp4 right? Dmc 1.1 has Sp3
Raj_Shresta Pre-requisites for Patch management on Lifecycle Controller enabled Servers: The supported servers must contain the required firmware version of idrac6 Enterprise and Usc.
Raj_Shresta Correct Todd.
Raj_Shresta We will block Sp4
Raj_Shresta Please note that idrac6 must be configured and auto discovery is not supported in Dell Management Console.
wijagr so if a customer is running 1.02 is it recommended not to go to Smp Sp3

BryanWeaver left.

stevo left.
wijagr i know a hotfix was out there
Eric_Szewczyk There is a Dmc hotfix for Smp Sp3 on Sim currently.
Dell-ToddR Dmc 1.0.2 does now support Sp3
Raj_Shresta that hot fix is applicable to Dmc 1.0.2
wijagr thanks
Raj_Shresta Continuing with Pre-requisites for Patch: Configure the Ws-man protocol in the connection profile and discover idrac using Ws-man
Raj_Shresta Gather the discovered device’s information using Agentless Inventory
Raj_Shresta Download Dup catalog.

JohnaDenton left.

Rebecca_H left.
Raj_Shresta Run compliance assessment for Lifecycle Controller enabled servers. From manage updates report, you can stage and perform the updates to various targets.
Dell-ScottH quick plug for live Dmc demos before we start losing everyone - Shelley from the Briefing Center does a live Dmc demo every month, next one is coming up soon - register here --> https://www.eiseverywhere.com/ereg/index.php?eventid=8035&
Cesar any plans to integrate Altiris Ds with Dmc?

srvrgeek left.
Dell-ToddR Yes, Ds 7.1 will integrate in early April
Cesar cool..
Randy_Miller I thought Ds7.1 was mid March. Has that slipped?
wijagr Is there a Deployment solution 7, i know about 6.9 Sp3 did they skip 7.0 and go to 7.1
Dell-ToddR Randy, remind me to flog you later
Dell-ToddR late march/early april
Randy_Miller No you will be on spring break during the flogging time.
Eric_Szewczyk There is a Ds 7.0 currently available through Client Management Suite 7.0, but is lacking the support that Ds 7.1 will offer when released.
Cesar Scotth looks like the registrations for the webinar about open manage are closed
wijagr so 7.1 will compete again Mdt 2010 and Sccm Osd then
Randy_Miller Eric, I have seen several people on the forum talk about not being able to upgrade as I have had that issue with the symantec site. Any updates on this issue?
Dell-ScottH @cesar - not cool ... send me an email and I'll get you in .. scott_hanson@dell.com
Cesar k thanks..
Raj_Shresta On Dell Equallogic devices, the agentless inventory task can now retrieve Enclosure, Array disks, Volumes and controller information using Snmp.
Dell-ScottH or email the dell_events@dell.com id and tell them I said to let you in :-) ... Liz is the one behind that Id and will do it
C._Baker on the agentless front - any discussion on extending support into powerconnect?
Dell-ToddR Chris, we support powerconnect now.
Dell-ToddR certain models
Dell-ToddR I can get you the support matrix
ChrisMuncy please
C._Baker gotcha - thx
wijagr will openmanage network manager be included
ChrisMuncy on the same note - what about tape drives?
Eric_Szewczyk To[Private] Randy_Miller problems upgrading to what Randy?
Dell-ToddR we are evaluating that now....to include Omnm
Dell-ToddR certain tape drives are supported
ChrisMuncy ...
ChrisMuncy lol
Randy_Miller To[Private] Eric_Szewczyk When they want to upgrade Dmc or anything it says to upgrade to Ns7sp3.
Dell-ToddR our support matrix has it listed on support.dell.com
Randy_Miller To[Private] Eric_Szewczyk when it tries it throws an authentication error and to try later.
Randy_Miller To[Private] Eric_Szewczyk Happened to me at two customer sites now and two people on the dmc_tech site have asked about that.
C._Baker what about Dell branded Emc arrays? just Eql only for support?
wijagr what about call home monitoring some type of intergration with Dells Psm service
Eric_Szewczyk To[Private] Randy_Miller interesting.. yeah I heard about that... I have a workaround for it, but don't know what is causing it.
Dell-ToddR We do have support for Emc arrays also listed in the support matrix
Dell-ToddR phone home support is provided via Prosupport. Just launched yesterday
Dell-ScottH @cesar, got your email and forwared to person running event
Randy_Miller To[Private] Eric_Szewczyk So I have several customers that are still on 1.0.1 or 1.7(symantec number) and can't upgrade to 1.0.2 or 1.8. The number differences are a pain as well.
Cesar Thanks !
C._Baker but can you retrieve controller info, disk info, etc on the Clariion?
Dell-ScottH To[Private] Dell-JeffS what is next weeks topic ?
Dell-ToddR Raj? Can you help C_baker with that?

Eric_Szewczyk To[Private] Randy_Miller let me forward you a workaround that Jordan sent out earlier today... maybe you can help me document this problem and I'll have folks on our side track it down?
Dell_Gabe Dell|emc Cx300 Cx3-10 Cx3-20 Cx3-40 Cx3-80 Cx500 Cx700 Ax100 Ax100i Ax150 Ax150i Note: To discover the Ax100, Ax100i, Ax150, and Ax150i, you should have the Navisphere® manager software on the arrays instead of the default Navisphere Express®. Ax4-5/ax4-5i Cx4 Series Cx4-120 Cx4-240 Cx4-480 Cx4-960
Cesar you need to have the Navisphere installed no the Mgmt server to read the Clarion info right?
Randy_Miller To[Private] Eric_Szewczyk Sounds good. You monitor Dmc_tech right? Or do you want me to send that item from last week to your email?
Cesar ah ok..
Dell_Gabe from the support matrix for Dmc 1.1
Eric_Szewczyk To[Private] Randy_Miller Yes I'm on Dmc Tech... it would be good to send to all as this seems to be a common theme
C._Baker thx for the list - that is very helpful
wijagr where is the support matrix for Dmc 1.1?
wijagr is that out for viewing eyes
Dell_Gabe Not sure it has officially been posted yet
Dell-JeffS To[Private] Dell-ScottH no idea
Dell-JeffS To[Private] Dell-ScottH prob in that letter to terry
Raj_Shresta it will be posted once Dmc 1.1 goes out in April
Randy_Miller To[Private] Eric_Szewczyk ok. I hate to send to it when I know there isn't anything on there for this but I like the workaround. I will check with my customer and see if they got it working or I will visit them and try this.
Dell_Gabe But most of the devices are the same for Dmc 1.1 with the exceptions of the new Hw support Raj has mentioned already
