Problem:

How do I Restore a Volume from Snapshot using Dell EqualLogic Group Manager?

Solution:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dell EqualLogic Storage snapshot referred as Snapshot and Snapshot Reserve.

Dell EqualLogic Snapshots are space efficient online point-in-time copies of source volume data and do not consume any space, but are only a set of pointers to the data in the base volume.  As data is modified on the base volume, disk space is allocated from the snapshot reserve to store the changes.  The snapshot license comes with default. Like base volumes, a snapshot can be mounted to a host, read or modify data in the snapshot, or create a full volume (clone) that has dedicated space allocated from the free storage pool.

Volume Collection feature enables maintaining data consistency across volumes. In case of Oracle database applications database files are spread across multiple volumes. When you create a snapshot of a volume collection you maintain consistency across all volumes.

The following example illustrates How to Set volume and snapshot offline. Restore volume from snapshot. These are helpful to restore the database volumes in case of Oracle Database Recovery using Dell EqualLogic Group Manager GUI.

  1. Set Volume Offline.
  2. Set Snapshot Offline.
  3. Restore Volume from Snapshot.
