There have been some updates to the technical diagrams for SharePoint 2013 (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263199.aspx).  These diagrams provide some much needed guidance for deploying SharePoint and the various workloads that go along with it.  The technical guidance cover the gamut of simple (streamlined) topologies to more complex (Enterpise Scale and Hybrid) deployments.  Here are some of my favorites:

  • Enterprise-scale farms for SharePoint Server 2013
Prescriptive guidance for deploying and managing an Enterprise Scale (90k users, 100 million search items) SharePoint 2013 farm.  This diagram provides a sample farm design using many tiers of servers including web front ends, general application servers, specialized application servers, search application servers and tiered database servers.  There is also guidance on applying patches and updates to the farm.
  • Streamlined Topologies for SharePoint Server 2013
This diagram provides design guidance for smaller, more simplified SharePoint 2013 farms.  The main take away here is that each tier of servers is configured with the same services to provide for the simple management and maintenance of the farm.
  • Deploy SharePoint with SQL Server Always On
This diagram describes how to deploy SharePoint with SQL Server Always On technology.  Although, it's a Windows Azure paper, this can be useful for on-premise and private cloud deployments as well.
  • Plan and Use the Distributed Cache Service
This diagram describes how to design and deploy the Distributed Cache Service to take advantage of this new capability.  This paper covers the an overview of the new service, how to install and configure the service and how to manage and maintain the service.

Those are my favorites, but there is a lot more information that is available so check it out.
