Question on WAKE On LAN and Relay WAKE On LAN

  • Question on WAKE On LAN and Relay WAKE On LAN.....

Recently, I tested WAKE on LAN on local LAN (where WDM server and client are in the same LAN) and it worked just fine.

But, when I tried to do a WAKE on LAN across WAN (where WDM server and client are connected via VPN tunnel).   It DID NOT work.   I tried putting another client on the remote LAN and tried Relay WAKE on LAN but it did not work also.

How can I wake up a client via remote LAN?

    Appreciate the help,

    Douglas

  • WOL Broadcast only works on the same subnet unless you configure your routers on your network to direct the broadcast to other subnets. en.wikipedia.org/.../Wake-on-LAN

Relay WOL via WDM is one way around the limitation but it requires at least one Wyse device on the remote LAN to be turned on and active in WDM. The Wyse device also needs to support Relay WOL, which you can check by going into Wyse Device Manager, select device, click + symbol in bottom right of window so it shows the full device details (don't know why they hide this section), then under Network Info tab, scroll to bottom of second column where it should show "Relay WOL" Yes or No.
