ImageAssist image creation for windows 10.

This question has suggested answer(s)

Hi Everyone.

I am hoping some of you can help me clear this up as its driving me bananas.  I've wasted tons of time on trying to build a windows 10 image and seem to be getting no where.

Here's a little background to let you know what has transpired so far:

Attempting to build a New Image on a brand new physical laptop as I did for windows 7.  I currently do not have a VM setup to be able to do this separately.

-New Dell Latitude e5580 laptop.  Shipped with windows 10. - Can't use IA b/c system already sysprepped when shipped.

-Trouble using "direct from MS" ISO b/c the Product Key is buried in Bios and not recoverable.

Any ideas or am I going about this entirely incorrectly?

  • Hello Jason,

If buying the license from Dell using OEM then you can either go to support.dell.com download the restore media then delete any existing partitions and perform a fresh install of the OS. Another suggestion downloading the media from Microsoft MCT either process do not enter a product key you have the option to SKIP.

you do not need to build on the E5580 you can build on any Dell computer that we DIA supports

  • UPDATE:

Windows 10 image created on a VM using Dell OEM reinstallation media.

All checks for Image assist pass.

Unable to add Windows 10 Product Key as key is buried in Bios

Auto capture fails at sysprep due to activation error

Any ideas?  been fighting this for over a week.  Its starting to get frustrating and making me want to ditch the tool.

  • FYI, you can find the Windows 10 license key embedded in the BIOS. Open an Elevated command prompt window, type (or copy/paste) the following command and hit Enter:

    wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey > KEY.TXT

    Then open KEY.TXT in Notepad
