One of the common needs of a cloud platform is the ability to provide high availability (HA) to virtual instances by automatically relocating and relaunching Virtual Machines (VMs) from failed compute hosts to operational compute hosts in the cluster. The Dell Red Hat OpenStack Cloud Solution and Red Hat OpenStack Platform uses Pacemaker to monitor compute nodes, and initiate recovery via nova-evacuate if a heartbeat is missed.

This technical guide describes the prerequisites and procedures to configure and use Instance High Availability to protect OpenStack instances in the Dell Red Hat OpenStack Cloud Solution Version 5.0.
