We have a 1000e chassis and on the B fabric we have M8024 XAUI switches on B1 and B2. The uplinks go to our existing 1Gb switches. For obvious reasons I do not want the traffic going out from 10Gb to the 1Gb network back to the other 10Gb switch.

My question is do I need to provide external uplinks from M8024 to M8024 or does the backplane do this? Furthermore what switching protocol would be best to make sure the traffic is routed properly? Right now the switches are pretty much a factory configuration and in normal mode.

Thanks!
