Important

The official support for Windows Server 2016 by Dell is aligned with the commercial release of the operating system (OS) from Microsoft. Technical Preview builds are pre-release software that are not intended nor supported in production environments, labs, or full evaluations. The customers who have selected the Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview builds are NOT promised a technical support solution from Dell if they run into failures.

Windows Server 2016 is the next Operating System developed by Microsoft. The latest milestone release is Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview 4. It provides a wide range of new and enhanced features and capabilities spanning server virtualization, storage, software-defined networking, server management and automation, web and application platform, access and information protection, virtual desktop infrastructure, and more.

Dell is happy to announce its enablement plans for Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview 4 with

  1. Dell is the first OEM to achieve Windows Server 2016 Assurance logo tag for the following Dell PowerEdge Servers carrying TPM 2.0 (TPM 2.0 is one key criteria for the Assurance logo).

    • PowerEdge R630

       2. Dell has also received the Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview 4 Compatible logo for the following Dell PowerEdge Servers carrying TPM 1.2.

    • PowerEdge R730xd
    • PowerEdge R730
    • PowerEdge R630
    • PowerEdge T630

A Server is Assurance logo’d only if it passes the following verification tests:

  1. TPM 2.0
  2. Secure boot
  3. Adherence to UEFI specification v2.3.1c or greater
  4. IOMMU device presence and verification
  5. PPI Provision/Clear flags needs to be set to TRUE

For enabling the TPM 2.0 on Dell platforms please refer to the below steps.

The boot mode on Dell PowerEdge Servers with TPM 2.0 must be UEFI.  TPM 2.0 is only supported in UEFI, per TCG specification.  Attempting to use TPM 2.0 in legacy bios mode will result in an error.
