The PowerEdge R720 (along with other 2-socket Dell PowerEdge servers) recently got an injection of higher processing performance, without drawing any additional power! The Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2600 product family are now upgraded to v2 (formerly code-named “Ivy Bridge-EP”).
This has resulted in better benchmarks across the board, for both performance and performance/watt. One of the key workloads we focus on utilizes the two-tier SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) standard application benchmark. Today, Dell was certified with its latest SAP benchmark result, which surpasses similar RHEL/Sybase results that used the Intel Xeon E5-2697 v2 processors, as shown below:
The SAP SD benchmark models a sell-from-stock scenario, which includes order creation, delivery of goods, and invoicing. A better benchmark score means more users, and therefore higher levels of productivity for businesses. The details of the comparison of top-performing two-tier Linux/Sybase results, all of which used Xeon Processors E5-2697 v2, is summarized below:
Central Server Name
# of Benchmark Users
Processors/ Cores/ Threads
Dell PowerEdge R720
SAP enhancement package 5 for SAP ERP 6.0
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4
Sybase ASE 15.7
HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8
Cisco UCS B200 M3
Dell is proud to announce this result in the midst of SAP TechEd 2013. If you’re attending this conference in Las Vegas, please stop by the Dell booth and talk with us about high-performing Dell/SAP solutions!
