June and July 2013 were full of new additions to the Dell Systems Management portfolio of products, which help you more easily monitor, manage, and update your PowerEdge servers. If you missed any of the updates, this post will get you up to speed on new features that will save you time on the job.
Following up on the huge Dell PowerEdge VRTX announcement in June... in July we wrote many blogs and wiki articles, posted white papers, & hosted several chat sessions about systems management relating to the VRTX solution. Additionally, we created new videos showing off the Dell Chassis Management Controller for Dell PowerEdge VRTX, which allows you to both view system health and assign shared resources among up to 4 blades in the VRTX chassis.
Also in July, we discussed the much anticipated Dell OpenManage Essentials v1.2 release, which in addition to now supporting PowerEdge VRTX, allows you to use Microsoft Windows Server 2012 as the OS for the OME management station, and introduces a new mapping feature that allows you to keep tabs on your remotely managed servers, no matter where in the world they are.
Not to be left out, the Chassis Management Controller (CMC) for the M1000E chassis also received an update to version 4.4, which includes a new feature that allows you to clone server settings from a blade, and assign those same settings to an empty slot, so that the settings will be applied when a new blade is inserted.
Finally, in late June 2013, we released v1.7 of the Dell Management Plug-In for VMware vCenter, which introduces cluster level firmware updates in your Dell / VMware environment and enables using Active Directory user accounts.
