The records just keep coming with Dell PowerEdge 12th generation servers!
Less than a month ago, I announced two TPC-H world-record benchmarks using the Dell PowerEdge R720 and Actian Vectorwise. These results set records for both single-server performance and price/performance for 100GB and 300GB databases.
Today, I’d like to announce another world record TPC-H benchmark with an even bigger 1TB database using the Dell PowerEdge R820, our new 4-socket/2U rack server Intel prominently mentioned with the Xeon E5-4600 launch. This TPC-H result sets records for both benchmark performance (Queries per Hour, or QphH) and price/performance ($/QphH)!
Here’s how the PowerEdge R820 result looks against other top 1TB single-node results:
The PowerEdge R820 packs four Intel Xeon E5-4600 processors into just 2U of rack space. The 8-processor HP ProLiant DL980 G7 requires 8U, 4X the rack space, and only delivered half of the performance of the R820!
The SPARC Enterprise M8000 used 16 SPARC64 processors and requires a full cabinet of rack space; the 2U PowerEdge R820 outperformed it by over 2X!

As you can see, the Dell PowerEdge R820 is a great choice for handling large databases, reaching performance levels previous only achievable by much larger servers.

TPC and the benchmark name TPC-H are registered trademarks of the Transaction Processing Performance Council. The TPC believes that comparisons of TPC-H results measured against different database sizes are misleading and discourages such comparisons.
