Ubuntu Server Edition 11.04 was released from Canonical on April 28, 2011. The Dell Linux engineering team is working with Canonical to re-certify most all Dell PowerEdge and PowerEdge-C servers that have been previously certified with older releases of Ubuntu Server Edition. Re-certification efforts are under way, so be sure to visit the Canonical hardware certification site for continuous updates.
Some of the new features in Ubuntu Server Edition 11.04 include updates to Eucalyptus and OpenStack (foundation technologies for Ubuntu Cloud). For details on these and other features, please refer to the Release Notes from Canonical.
Ubuntu Server Edition is not factory-installed or officially supported by Dell. However, OS support contracts are available from Canonical through the Ubuntu Advantage program. Certified Dell hardware is preferred in order to provide best support, but it is not required.
And finally, please note that the Linux Engineering team has released a build of OpenManage 6.5 for Ubuntu 10.04 and later versions. For more details, refer to the blog Dell OpenManage Server Administrator 6.5 for Ubuntu.
