We have a MD3200i with Dual Quad Port controllers. I'm planning on leaving the IP settings as the default on the MD3200i.
My question arrises for the hosts. I put two Quad Port Intel nics in to my hosts for a total of 8 GigE connections that will be iSCSI only.
What's the best way to configure this?
I was planning on this: Each vmnic is on it's own vswitch.
vmnic1 bound to 192.168.130.201
vmnic2 bound to 192.168.131.201
vmnic3 bound to 192.168.132.201
vmnic4 bound to 192.168.133.201
vmnic5 bound to 192.168.130.211
vmnic6 bound to 192.168.131.211
vmnic7 bound to 192.168.132.211
vmnic8 bound to 192.168.133.211
Would this let me do RR over vmnic1-4 on controler #0 to one Lun (#3) and RR over vmnic5-8 to controler#1 to another Lun (#5)?
The recommended way of setting up the MD3200i to a host with ESXi5 would be to have only 4 NICs in the host and have each one of them need to have their own vSwitch. They would also need to be on their own separate subnet. Now if you absolutely want to have the 8 NICs on the host you can surely give it a shot its just not recommended as you will not get a benefit from it and it may actually have a reverse effect on the configuration. But, if you do want to give it a shot you will need to make sure that all 8 NICs are on their OWN subnet and their own vswitch. So you would have 8 NICs, 8 vSwitches, and 8 Subnets for the iSCSI traffic. I hope this answers your question. Please let me know if there is anything else we can assist you with.
