its a new dell laptop and want to install windows 8 again. It came with Windows 8 Core with is 64bit single language I downloaded the windows 8 upgrade assistant. Then I found out my product key using keyfinder. I ran the upgrade assistant then copied the product key and it displayed the message ---- This product key cannot be used to install a retail version of windows 8 I ran windows Update and it allowed me to download Update which means My Windows 8 is genuine so why I am not able to install windows 8. Will I be able to install windows 8 core with Windows 8 pro iso ?
The product key is tied to the bios of the computer and you cannot install another version with that key.
If you want to change the operating system you have to buy a full (expensive)version license. You cannot use the upgrade assistant that was only for upgrades from Win 7 or earlier. The offer has expired as of Jan 31. The Win 8 Pro disk you made or purchased is an upgrade disk--not a full version-- and cannot be used on Win8 core. The only full version available is System Builder OEM version available from a few online retailers.
Try running the Windows 8 Upgrade with a product key only.
For the US:
For the UK:
Then try using one of these product keys with the upgrade assistant
XKY4K-2NRWR-8F6P2-448RF-CRYQH (Windows 8 Professional)RR3BN-3YY9P-9D7FC-7J4YF-QGJXW (Windows 8 Professional with Media Center)FB4WR-32NVD-4RW79-XQFWH-CYQG3 (Windows 8 [Home])
It is a generic key from here:
Then hopefully it should automatically activate in the BIOS with your actual key as here:
However for me it says the product key is okay but then it says sorry we can't connect right now.

On some systems its worse.
You can ONLY install Windows 8 from this point AND only 64 bit versions.
Otherwise you will get Image failed to verify with *ACCESS DENIED*
Press any key to continue.
Some bios are locked down to the point where it Bricks the machine Trying to boot Linux and install.
