Latitude e7450 - Repeating Keys/Debouncing Issue is present in this model too

This question is not answered

Not sure how to get attention to this, as I do not think Dell is aware of this problem since this model was only released a month ago.  The repeating keys/debouncing issue described here  , is present in this new model Latitude e7450 in both bios A00 and A01.  Please make this bug known, so that Dell is able to fix it in a bios update!

  • Hi - any progress on this? Have same issue here on latitude E7450 / linux (Fedora 21) BIOS A02 - have no clue how to fix it ... Thanks!

  • So, I also found and posted in this thread  about the issue with the E7450

and basically that is the aggregation of all the posts on this repeating keys/debouncing issue on ALL affected models.  Honestly as a developer, I'm pretty shocked at how bad Dell support really is.  I've been lucky enough to never have any hardware issues until now...

They chose to have a forum for their customer service, fine; that works with many other companies. But they should have at least split the forums into laptop series,by model number, have a bug tracker and paid more than 1 guy to relay issues to the engineering team.. This is ridiculous and utter chaos reading through these threads and it is enough to make me question buying a high priced Dell ever again.  Like many people I went with Dell Latitude after Lenovo created that awful macbook-like clickable touchpad, but it looks like their 2015 models are bringing back hardware left/right click buttons again so that might be my next purchase.

  • Just quick update regarding this issue on E7450 - it looks like it's not only problem of internal keyboard but touchpad as well as repetition is happening also with left / right click that usually cause multiple event fired in UI (50 firefox windows opened in second / forms that are filled randomly etc.)

Please could you at least comment this?

    Thanks

  • I have this problem too. On Ubuntu 14.04. Other models got new bios update to fix this issue, so hopefully there will be fix also for E7450.

  • I am having the same issue with E7450 on Ubuntu 14.04.2. Hope to see a fix soon!

    $ uname -rv

    3.16.0-31-generic #41~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Feb 11 19:30:13 UTC 2015

  • I had a phone call with support today about this issue. The bad thing is, that they didn't knew about this issue or that some Latitude models has been fixed already. The good thing (or not so bad) is, that support (at least our in slovakia) didn't know about bios updates until it's few day before release.

So there is still hope, that they are cooking new bios update for us secretly :-)

  • Repeated Post.

    Keys sticking and repeating.

Cannot be reproduced at will but will happen every few minutes or so while typing.

I have not seen this when booting in to Windows 7.

This problem makes this expensive computer frustrating to use.  There have been akin reports for the previous model which some have suggested has been fixed with a bios update.  Maybe when the Dell developers forked the bios development for the e7450 from the previous model, the bug went with the fork and needs to be patched in to the e7450 line.

Can Dell people please comment upon this, preferably with a fix or time line for a fix.

  • I have the same problem, just updated to kernel 3.16..0-33 and slowed down the repeat function on the keyboard. Will let you know if this fixes things. I agree with you through. It would be nice if they foxed the issue after they said it supported Ubuntu.

I also found the "workarounds" with the drivers etc ... screwed up my updates as well. DKMS module is no longer compiling on kernel upgrades due to the Kernel rev being to high.

  • Same issue here. Running latest BIOS A02. The issue is somewhat frequent on Linux with 3.19 (occurs 3 or 4 times per day). I have also seen this issue on Windows 8.1 although less frequently and less severe (key will repeat a few times and stop on its own without having to press another key).

Assuming it's a BIOS issue as on previous models, it's a real shame that a software bug is making an otherwise really nice laptop into a piece of ***. The profit on one laptop alone could probably pay for a programmer's time to fix this bug. My 1,000+ dollars and I had higher hopes for the new Dell.

If they don't confirm a fix in the works we'll probably end up going with Lenovo for our future laptop deployments, as this Latitude was going to be the first of many purchased by our IT dept.

  • Same problem here, even after updating the bios to A02.

Will Dell release a fix for that soon, or should I just assume that "this is how things are in dell" and buy a different laptop..?

Return it if you can. It could take months before another BIOS update is released

  • I have returned it, and took E7440 instead; in E7440 there's already a BIOS fix.

  • Try A03 for E7450.

  • I have been running with BIOS version A03 for the Latitude E7450 for a few days not and have not experienced the repeating key issue.  The BIOS release notes do not mention that this problem has been specifically addressed.    If others could post their findings / experiences here that would be good.

  • I can confirm that. Running A03 for 3 days and no key repeating.
