First, NONE of these above options work.
As SOON as I strike the keyboard it FREEZES.

I have tried hitting F8 on start up. NOTHING.

The story:

A friend shipped me her hard drive for other reasons (can't get her Netscape mail to show up).
Upon arrival, in a VERY WELL packaged box.....this ERROR msg. happens. It was fine when she used it last.

I have put it in two known good towers, same thing.
I have switched all the jumpers around, just to try it.
I have tried different cables, different electrical outlets....different houses!!

I have scanned it for viruses: NO viruses found.

I have made it a slave and backed up MyDocs, mail, et cetera.
I CAN SEE THE DATA AS A SLAVE.

I do NOT have the Restore Software disk because all she SHIPPED me is the hard drive.

PERHAPS she can find the disk and mail it to me......BUT, I want to get it fixed now
while I have the time. She also just moved, I am not expecting her to BE ABLE to find ANYTHING right now.

....

My question is:

Can I download a Restore Disk? (its from a DELL)

I do NOT need the authentication NUMBER. I have that a phone call away.
I just need to be able to run diskcheck, or whatever other tools the Restore Disk offers.

If not, can I download something else (floppy) that gives me the same tools?

TIA,

Lesley
