Inspiron N5110 - restore to factory defaults !! BIG PROBLEM

This question is not answered

Hello guys. Nice to have found this community and i hope that i can solve my problem here.

I bought this DELL Inspiron n5110. Turn it on for the first time, it installed the windows 7 with license, all drivers... all ok.

After a while, i just made some experiments, and ended up formatting the whole hard disk. So i no more have any DELL PARTITION. I also don't have any recovery disks, or any resources disks.

I reinstalled an Win7, i downloaded all the drivers from DELL, installed them. But they don't work as at the very beggining. I don't have all the factory settings, programs and all that. An i cannot find any drivers for my webcam.

Can you advise me something? Can i restore the factory settings anyhow?

Thanks a lot.

  • If you deleted the Dell partitions you can ONLY reinstall manually with discs. The Dell Recovery and Diagnostic partitions are not user recoverable or installed.

There is a correct install sequence and if that was not followed there can be problems after the install.

HERE is the Dell Manual install procedure. You should be able to download everything you need from the Dell downloads, except possibily some add on programs such as the Trial version of MS office, etc.

  • I am having a similar problem. The Dell product manual is wrong and it appears impossible to revert to factory settings - so easy to do with other computers like HP.

Dell customer service has been less than helpful - How do you return to factory settings on a Dell Inspron n5110?

  • Hi qualv,

I apologize for the inconvenience. Please give me an opportunity to assist you

There are 2 methods of doing a factory reset on the computer.

    Method 1:
Restore the computer's software to original condition.
Back up important files and data.

    1. Power on the computer.
    2. As the computer starts, press <F8> on the keyboard until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen.
    3. Press the <Down Arrow> on the keyboard to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, and then press <Enter>.
    4. Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next.
    5. Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK.
    6. Click Dell Factory Image Restore.
    7. In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next.
    8. Click to select the Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition check box.
    9. Click Next.
The computer is restored to the default factory configuration.
    10. When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer.

    Method 2:

Restore the Dell Factory Image if the option does not appear in the Windows RE.
Keep the operating system disk handy.
The option should only appear if you enter RE from the F8 menu, not by booting the windows DVD.
Windows PC Restore Factory Image, CRTL + F11

Start the system and tap F8 and choose Repair My Computer. If this option is missing, boot to WinRE using the Dell OEM DVD/CD.

    1. Click Command Prompt on the System Repair options menu.
    2. In the Command prompt window at the X:\sources prompt, Type path d:\windows;d:\windows\system32 and press <ENTER> key
    3. Type d: and press <ENTER> key.
    4. Type cd tools and press <ENTER> key.
    5. Type PCRestore and press the <ENTER> key and Dell Factory Image Restore window will appear.
