No XP Recovery Disc

This question has suggested answer(s)

I need to re-install Windows XP on a Dimension 8300 after replacing the hard disk.  I don't have a recovery disk or a Windows XP system disk - either I've lost them or they were never shipped in the first place (is this likely?)

  • Most recovery software is held on a recovery partition.  If the HDD is trashed you lost the recovery partition (depending on how old the computer is).  You can call dell and ask them for a set of discs that they should ship for free (if this is your first time asking).

  • Hello,

You can sign up for a replacement Windows install CD from HERE.

They were free because Dell sometimes did not ship the disk with the systems. Recent reports have Dell asking for fee for these disks.

Any Windows XP install disk of the same version listed on the OS key attached to the system will work. You will just need to enter the Windows key number from your system when the install asks.

It's possible - yes, and if you never received the various discs with the system, you can request 'Backup' discs from Dell Wink

  • Thanks.  This seems to be what I need but I don't think it works for me as I am in the UK.

Is there a UK equivalent? or any other ideas?

I don't have any UK links. Sorry

I have seen Dell recovery disks for XP on eBay in the $10 US range. Idea
