Restore Factory Partition Inspiron 1520

  • Hi

I'm only posting this as I'm at the end of my tether!

How on earth do you restore the factory.wim file??????

Each time I try to run the software from the D drive it fails to format (I guess as the OS drive can't be I just have no idea how to just restore it!

I've sold the laptop (Inspiron 1520) and now need to use the recovery software to "re-seal" the laptop.

If anyone can assist me on this ASAP I would be very grateful

    Cheers

    Mark

  • Power on, press F8 and you'll see the option in the boot menu.

  • Hi Thanks for the reply but not quite so simple as that.

It was a case of scouring these forums until I found the answer.

Basically boot from Windows Vista DVD, goto repair options, command prompt.

    Then from d:\tools directory run Imagex /Apply d:\dell\image\factory.wim 1 c:\

    So Job done

Only thing is I had to run it twice as it doesn't automatically format the drive :smileyhappy:

  • It is normal that show [INFO]xxxxxx during the Progress?

    Something like:

    Progress 78%, ....

[Info] xxxx [Restore Sec. Descriptor: (seq.25) -> SACL is going away (acecount==1)] (GLE = 0)

[Info] xxxx [Restore Sec. Descriptor: (seq.25) -> SACL is going away (acecount==1)] (GLE = 0)

[Info] xxxx [Restore Sec. Descriptor: (seq.25) -> SACL is going away (acecount==1)] (GLE = 0)

    Progress 79% ......
