I assume that the application has to be uninstalled and reinstalled, can anyone advise how this can be done?

If you use the Dell Support Center, you can un-install it, then restart your computer. You can download the Dell Support Center from Drivers & Downloads, enter your service tag number and you'll find it under applications.
If you do not use this feature, then just leave it uninstalled.
