Does the M910 support LR-DIMMs (Load Reduced DIMMs)?

This question is not answered

Simple question, does the M910 generation II with E7-8867L processors support 32GB LR-DIMMS?

  • Hello.

Low Voltage DIMMs are supported by M910 systems that have Westmere EX processors like E7-8867TL and a revised system board 7510 together with associated system updates. Check to make sure that the M910 II has a revised system board as expected. Outside  of this, the LV-DIMM will operate at the usual 1.5 V instead of the designed 1.35 V. They should work fine

  • I think we are talking about two different things, I was taking about load reduced DIMMs, i.e. 32GB DDR3 modules. Load reduced DIMMS have an electrical buffer instead of a register, this is apparently necessary for large capacity modules in order to reduce the electrical load on the memory bus and controller.

I believe LV DIMMS are just a reduced voltage module, using a standard register based DIMM.

The M910 says it supports 1TB of memory, however in order to achieve that you would need to use 32GB modules. The only 32GB modules I can find for sale are DDR3 LR-DIMMS.

LR DIMM with additional benefit of offsetting the load on the memory bus will also work fine.

Note that available 32GB  DIMMs are Quad Rank whose population is restricted to slots with white and black sleeves.
